What is Bollywood?

Bollywood is the term used to refer to the famous Hindi language film industry located in India. Although It is commnly referred to as Hindi film industry, over the years the name Bollywood has become a standard word to refer to this film industry. The industry is based in Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay). The name is a Portmanteau of Bombay and the American film industry Hollywood. Bollywood occupies first place in the number of films produced in a calender year, moving past of Hollywood in the process.

Many people think that Bollywood is the only film industry in India. But it’s not the case. Bollywood is the biggest film industry in India, in which films are made in Hindi, Indian national language. There are many more film industries in India, some of which are “TOLLYWOOD”: Telugu film industry based in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh; “KOLLYWOOD”: Tamil film industry based in Chennai (formerly known as Madras), Tamil Nadu; “PUNJABI” film industry, “KANNADA” film industry, “BENGALI” film industry and other small film industries.

Bollywood films are manily family dramas and musicals. It seems that Indian people give more preference to family dramas to all those action films. Typically each Bollywood film contains 5 to 6 songs in them, each averaging around 5 minutes duration. The success of a film here depends on how good the music of film is. The songs are normally released much before the film in this Indian film industry. Bollywood film industry has a lot of talented actors and beautiful actresses. Most of the Bollywood Actresses are both beautiful and very talented when it comes to performance. The actors are handsome and talented too.
